Tips and tricks – How to host a website

With the growing presence of the Internet in all spheres of life, there was a need for the website to be one of the primary ways of online presentations. How much Internet is important today, we all know, and how much a good presentation is crucial for business success, some know it, and others will only experience it. All who plan to build their online image, need to know that web hosting is one of the most important items they can choose, a bad choice of web hosting can slow down the growth of every online business, and good web hosting can make it a lot easier. Undoubtedly what exactly do you do and what you want to achieve by building a website, all online entrepreneurs actually want the same from web hosting – that it should be cheap and reliable. These are the most important things, but there are other things that you should know about the web host that will mean to you in online business.

What is a webhost?

In order for users to see a website, they must be published, that is, websites must be placed on a web server. Your computer can serve as a server if it is connected to a network, but it is customary for this task to be done by a specialized hosting provider that will place your website on your web server and it will become available to all users at any time. This service is called web hosting. Web hosting and mail hosting means setting up web pages on web servers, creating their own e-mail addresses and mailboxes, creating databases, installing specific applications, visiting statistics, etc. Hosting services actually provide “home” or accommodation for websites and makes them constantly available on the Internet. One of the basic prerequisites for presence on the Internet is setting up web sites on web servers. For less-visited websites, such as personal presentations, you have a free or very cheap hosting service that is quite limited by the speed of data transfer, disk space, additional services, and can be sponsored by advertisements. Customers with higher needs like businesses, companies, and institutions will choose a more advanced package of services that will enable them greater reliability and efficiency. Such users need to pay attention to the amount of disk space, the speed of access to the network provided by the service provider, the reliability and strength of their hardware, and how much the web site will be safe from various “attacks”.

Why is it important to choose a good web hosting?

A good choice of hosting providers and an adequate package of hosting services are of great importance in the event that you want to achieve serious results with your site, a large number of visits, credibility, and of course to earn. Since the whole web site is stored on a web hosting account, it needs to be fast, reliable and support all the services that are required for your website to function normally. Also, you need a hosting that offers enough flow (in other words, the amount of visits to your site that are allowed in the flow) and disk space (the amount of space that is required to store all of your files on your website).

Fast connection – more satisfied customers

One of the basic things you need to pay attention to is that the server where you ‘’store’’ data and content of the site, enable quick connection of users, or the quick access of visitors to your pages. For example, there are many hosting providers that offer pretty cheap hosting packages. However, the problem arises from the fact that when you access such sites from another country or continent, they open up slower due to the long distance of the server. The space on the server you want to rent therefore must meet your requirements, but also any future requirements, so you should check the procedure for changing the package that involves more space requirements on the server. Also, the amount of data per unit of time you can use is of great importance – bandwidth. It indicates the amount of data allowed to travel to and from your site. Each time you upload your file, you check email, someone visits a page of your website, all this uses your flow, that is, the amount of data that is exchanged in relation to the user – server. In other words, the more, the better.

Data protection from the site and technical support of hosting

Your site must be secured and not easily vulnerable and insecure, therefore you need to look for a hosting provider that is known for high standards and offers not only an enviable level of protection, but also a high-quality user support. A hosting provider that will provide you with the necessary security should have secure servers and SSL certificates. Support for users available 24 hours, seven days a week is very important, especially if you are not very experienced in such projects. It’s best to choose a package that offers support through chat or phone, because if something is wrong with your pages or access, you lose visitors or customers, and also earnings. In the modern world there is not much time to wait, and trust and credibility are easily lost. Visitors will look for the site of a competitor because nobody wants to wait for you until the support is ”worked out”. Do not be fooled by marketing of hosting companies but ask your colleagues or friends well about their experiences with web hosting companies.

Backup and control panel

Ask which hosting provider has a high quality backup system for data from the server. It is possible that due to certain problems, your site disappear with all the data, so in these situations, the possibility of recovering lost information is of great importance. Also, in order to quickly and easily manage the content of your website, the Control Panel with rich and clear options will ease the job when, for example, you need to protect a directory with a password, define front page extensions, configure new email addresses and access as well as to review your visit statistics and a lot more. Your speed in doing this job certainly affects the trust of the website visitors.

In addition to these, there are some “minor” things to keep in mind, such as:

MySQL Database – these are databases that are used by web applications such as Joomla, WordPress, forums, etc., to store data in the database. So you need them, but they do not have to be unlimited, but as much as your needs to cover all of the applications you use, each of which has its own MySQL database;

Addon Domains – the number of different domain names that will be associated with your hosting account. Depending on the hosting package you have selected, you can have one or more domain names associated with a hosting account. In any case, this also requires more space on your account, that is, disk space, flow, etc.;

Uptime – Practically, this is the guaranteed time that your website will be accessible. So, the greater, the better. However, no one can guarantee 100% uptime, but 99.9% is absolutely expected.

FTP Accounts – These orders are used to grant access to upload and download files from and to your site. Different restrictions on accessing folders that are on your account can be assigned to each FTP account.

To have your website, you need two things: a domain name and then a place where you will store all the files that make up your site. Hosting is exactly that. The website consists of a large number of different files and they should all be stored in a safe place that is always online and accessible to anyone who wants to access at any time. Your domain name connects you with your hosting account and displays a web site that is stored on your web hosting account.

If you hire an agency or a web designer, ask them if they have a suggestion where you can place the website files. What you need to pay attention to is the size of the disk space, the data flow rate and the number of MySql databases.. Also, security is very important, because of whether your site will be hacked, downed, or similarly depends on the hosting provider. And do not forget that the hosting company, often offers a cheap service, but you pay for each additional service as an extra fee!
